Living Wicca Black Cat Rescue

Isis & MorganI carry such a love for black cats. It has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that I am Wiccan or a Witch and has everything to do with the fact that I adore cats and my favorite color is black. As an animal rights advocate it has been brought to my attention more than once that not only black cats but black dogs as well are less than likely to be adopted amongst our animal population that resides in animal shelters or rescues. So the question is - why so?  Do people today still believe the superstitions revolved around black cats? In defense of the black cat - I can’t help but look at my Morgan who was adopted 5 years ago and see beauty, elegance, and love.  (Photo left-right: Isis & Morgan)

Morgan is a 5 year old black female cat. She was adopted from a city animal shelter and has been the love of my life since. I would like first to share her story which is not tragic but amusing. I had visited the local city pound three days in a row in search of a new cat-friend. Everytime I went there I just didn’t feel a connection with all the cats I visited. Don’t get me wrong I enjoyed playing with them and having them sit beside me while soaking up my attention and of course each time I left I had such a heavy heart leaving them there. I suppose I would have brought them all home if only I had a mansion and the means to care for each of them. The fourth day I went in I was determined to finally bring home a friend. As I was looking at the cats in front of me I felt a cat clawing around with my hair behind. I turned around and there sat Morgan upside down with the goofy cat look on her face. It was an instant connection. As I took her out of her cage she wrapped her paws around my neck and placed her head right beneath my chin purring loudly. She acted as though we had been friends forever. Morgan has been with me since. She has turned out to be a wonderful companian however - selective. She unknowningly tolerates most people however shows only her affections towards me. Alot of people avoid her because she is selective as to who she will be nice to. LoL. Typical female  right?

There is No God (Psych. Argument)

I wrote this sometime ago (December 2008) - it was for my Psych class and I just found it. I thought I would post it as I am curious about other’s feedback both positive and negative. Please keep in mind there is no “Ultimate Truth” at least in my own opinion.

Argument 1 - There is no God

I cannot accept any concept of God based on the fear of life or the fear of death or blind faith. I consider ethics to be an exclusively human concern with no superhuman authority behind it. The further the spiritual evolution of mankind advances, the more certain it seems to me that the path to genuine religiosity does not lie through the fear of life, and the fear of death, and blind faith, but through striving after rational knowledge.
The main source of the present-day conflicts between the spheres of religion and of science lies in this concept of a personal God. It is the aim of science to establish general rules which determine the reciprocal connection of objects and events in time and space. For these rules, or laws of nature, absolutely general validity is required—not proven. The most beautiful and most profound religious emotion that we can experience is the sensation of the mystical. And this mysticality is the power of all true science.
You may call me an agnostic, but I do not share the crusading spirit of the professional atheist whose fervor is mostly due to a painful act of liberation from the fetters of religious indoctrination received in youth. I prefer an attitude of humility corresponding to the weakness of our intellectual understanding of nature and of our own being.

Supportive Points
> Belief in God is simply an awareness of a reality greater then the perceived.
> Science takes in rational thinking and it’s surroundings than bases a supportive conclusion with sound evidence.
> Religion comes up with a mere “thought” conclusion and than seeks the necessary evidence to support it.
